Governor De Santis Offer to Host Mortal Kombat Tournament in Florida
With some states and countries rolling out stricter COVID-19 restrictions, Florida’s governor Ron De Santis has offered to host this year’s Mortal Kombat tournament. Recently California has restricted sports teams from hosting games in their home stadiums, and The Toronto Raptors have had to move their home games to Tampa. De Santis seems to feel the more the merrier, in an interview with Marshall Arts Magazine he said, '“I reached out to Shang Tsung and I just told him we’d love to host the tournament in the sunshine state. Perhaps the beaches of Clearwater or Walt Disney World, or maybe even one of our countless trailer park communities. We have the venues and the confidence host every fight safely with full contact and as many fatalities as you want!”
Florida really does seem like the obvious choice. We asked Floridians how they felt about hosting Mortal Kombat. One man said, “Hell yeah man I love Mortal Kombat, That Sonya Blade is hot! You think she’d be into my rebel flag tattoo? Or my other rebel flag tatoo? This one says Go ‘Noles” , we’re fairly sure this was a positive reaction. We were surprised to learn how few people were concerned about the risk of spreading COVID-19 during the tournament. Or even how few people were even wearing masks.
Not everyone shared the same excitement for this potential event. One of the fighters, Reptile was very much worried about the possibility of the games being held in Florida. He went as far as saying, “I don’t want to be out one night after a fight and get shot by some Polk County hick mistaking me for a God damn Alligator!” No word yet as to whether this concern or other possible concerns from fighters will be taken into consideration with Shang Tsung’s decision.
